Ginning units now operate three days a week in MP.

In response to a drop in cotton arrivals at the tail end of the season, Madhya Pradesh's ginning factories have reduced their weekly operations to two or three days.

Industry players stated that although most units have cut back on working days, the ones that are still open are only operating at 5–10% capacity.

According to them, spinning and ginning machines have continued to run towards the lower end due to consistent demand from textile mills.

Cotton grower and Khargone ginning unit owner Kailash Agrawal stated, "Textile mills are mostly utilising their stocks."

This season, the ginning sector is anticipated to cease operations by mid-May due to a severe decline in cotton availability with ginning machines operating at only 5–10% capacity.

Madhya Pradesh's top exports include cotton, technological textiles, and clothing. Technical textile and apparel exports totaled Rs 4,052 crore in the most recent fiscal year 2022–2023, while cotton exports brought in Rs 4,397 crore.

The price of cotton in Khargone, one of Madhya Pradesh's main spot markets, is Rs 6,700 per quintal. The harvest of new season cotton begins in October and peaks in November and December. Arrivals of cotton will persist until April or May.

In the current season, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), a nodal body established under the Ministry of Textiles for trade and cotton procurement, has purchased about 6.35 lakh quintal of cotton from state markets.
